#1. ASUS ROG G752VT-DH72 17 Inch Gaming Laptop: The Best Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01578ZN0Q’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b1f07010-df24-11e6-bc93-93aa9bde7335′]The ASUS ROG G752VT-DH72 is a powerful, mid-priced laptop, and it is the winner of this competition.

This laptop came out before the previous models, but it represents a great combination of price, design, components and performances for top-notch gameplay.

This midrange gaming laptop meets all of our gaming requirements even after all this time. It is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX970M graphics card.

It is certainly capable of taking onto all of the demanding games, and visually difficult games with decent framerates even at high and ultra-settings.

It features extras that enhance gaming experience, with a proficient and efficient dust-resistant cooling system, the colorful 1080p display and a comfortable, customizable keyboard.

This laptop possesses the 128GB solid-state drive that we wish it was at least twice larger, but the 256GB version is quite expensive. Beside the solid-state drive, Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 comes with a 1TB mechanical hard-drive that maintains the necessary storage for the laptop.

Design

The G752VT-DH72 is, despite the wonderful ROG look, quite large and heavy. By its 8.8 pounds, 1.5 by 16.4 by 12.7 inches, it is not the laptop that is adjusted for traveling and it can keep your desk quite busy. But, so do desktop computers.

However, it is not that heavy and with a good bag, you will handle it during the traveling. This design is not what everyone will like, but compared to Acer’s and HP’s bulky build, this laptop gives a powerful, industrial, gamer look.

Just like the other top-notch gaming laptop, this laptop’s physical design is outstanding for the gamers, and increases the gaming-related quality. It offers advanced thermal-fan cooling system, which acknowledges this laptop the best in the terms of cooling fans.

They completely eliminate the dust, and therefore keep the laptop cool even when playing games that are prone to overheating the laptop.

Like I already said, fans don’t make significant sound and during the testing, we never had to turn up the volume in order to hear the game.

The dual-fan system successfully keeps away the air from the components, while the cooling add-ons for the CPU and GPU maintain the hot air towards and out the rear vents.

The Keyboard and the Touchpad

Despite the touchpad not being too used in the gaming currents, the ROG G752VT-DH72 can be proud of its responsive and smooth Touchpad. It is capable of handling all the actions on Windows, and it has physical keys for the left and the right click. Touch bars are not frequently used by gamers, but they can come in handy when it comes to navigating.

The keyboard is a bit smaller than expected, but it feels good and comfortable for typing. The quality reaches some of the best USB desktop keyboards for gaming.

The quality of keyboard is also known for its backlighting and anti-ghosting. It also contains 6, pretty cool,  macro keys on the top left in order to customize keyboard for your needs accordingly. The keys are very deep, and the red backlighting contributes to the gaming attitude of this laptop.

Asus has a software that allows you to easily deactivate the track pad once mouse is inserted in the laptop. This option proves itself very handy, as gamers tend to easily disrupt their gameplay with their palms. Overall, both keyboard and trackpad (despite not being used a lot) are gamer-friendly.

Display

The Asus ROG G752 has vibrant, bring colors, good viewing angles and deep blacks as a result of amazing 1920×1080 IPS panel. Although there are always gamers who go with TN screen because of their better responsiveness, we prefer screens that tend to be brighter and more color accurate.

This laptop’s screen also comes with G-sync. Long story short,  this feature is compatible with Nvidia graphics card, and allows it to eliminate tearing and stuttering. The matte 17.-3-inch screen ensures a sharp image that is crucial when playing an amazing game on high graphics.

Performance

The ROG G752 contains every feature an average gamer would love, who doesn’t make a living out of gaming, but rather games for fun and relaxation. However, this doesn’t stop us from being serious gamers with wish for nothing less than the best.

This laptop ensures top-notch graphics performance thanks to its Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M graphics card with 3GB memory. This bold graphics card is followed with a Skylake Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor, and rich 16GB of RAM. This isn’t the maximal amount of RAM this laptop can get, it contains 2 more memory slots that are open for some RAM upgrading, however you don’t have to, as 16GB memory is more than plenty for demands today’s games have to offer.

The storage is equipped with 1TB hard drive and a 128 GB PCIe solid-state drive. Like we’ve already mentioned, this solid-state drive is quite smaller than we’d appear to appreciate, but I don’t think that paying $200+ for a larger SSD is worth it.

The Things I didn’t like

The ROG G752 comes with couple of defects, but they don’t affect its overall performance. We believe that every laptop has pros and cons that mark it, but those disadvantages don’t significantly affect the laptop in general.

Already mentioned,  ideal laptop would have at least one or two 256GB SSD instead of one 128GB SSD.

ROG G752 has a preinstalled Asus ROG Game First III software disrupts the work of Nvidia GeForce experience, and makes its booting quite slowly and causes it to crash regularly. However, uninstalling the Game First program solves this issue.

Also, this laptop can’t be proud of its battery life as there are models with far more respective battery life with attitude. However, this is the risk most of the gamers are willing to take.

Laptop has a large selection of memory, and with a 1TB hard drive and a smooth-running  128GB solid-state drive (SSD) it ensures large amount of games installed on it. Low disk space is no longer a nightmare for the gamers with a laptop as it allows you to keep all of your installations and saved games long after completing the final level of the game. SSD doesn’t meet all of our demands though, we’d appreciate if it was at least a 256GB drive but, the setting with more memory is more expensive and it contains upgrades that aren’t necessary to your gaming time.

Perhaps it would be better if the batteries lasted as long as an ultrabook can handle, but we know that gaming requires much more attention and performance compromise, compared to the laptop that despite great performance handles only the daily tasks.

#2. MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-068 15.6″ Slim and Light Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01IS33OLC’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’cb8c39c9-df24-11e6-9dca-1b17931d48be’]MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro is a must have laptop for the 2018. This laptop is a proof that amazing components can be placed into a slim and tightly designed laptop.

This model breaks the stereotypes about the portability and/or portability, as it allows you to play the most popular and the most demanding games of the today.

This MSI model that looks pretty much like every MSI laptop, has an additional gamer appeal on it.

Colorful and clear screen, satisfying, deep keyboard that every serious gamer will love and performances that will blow you off.

This laptop is built with an Intel 6th generation quad core i7-6700HQ processor alongside the amazing 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

The joy of playing multiple games without losing too much memory is increased with a 512GB Samsung SM951 SSD and 1TB hard drive. All of these performances look quite amazing, however the focus of this laptop is set onto a GeForce GTX 1060 graphic card.

This graphic card is equal with the GeForce GTX 980 and it will provide amazing gaming experience for the laptop in the following years. Let’s see some highlights of this beast.

Things I liked

  • I liked the slim design, smooth and perfect for gaming. It is hard to believe that such high-end components would cope with the slim and tight design that MSI featured with this model.
  • GTX 1060 is not an occasional opportunity to see on a laptop. However, I have enjoyed its performance. It is compatible with the other components inside the laptop which contributes to an enhanced overall performance.
  • The eye feels quite pleased on the sight of high-resolution and screen. Also, this laptop has extremely comfortable, deep keyboards. Although laptops can seldom please all gamers’ demands, MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro stands out from the crowd of ordinary, annoying, loud keyboards.

Things I didn’t like

  • I suppose this happens often, and even with the best laptop models, laptops easily overheat during the gaming, they run hot. This results in a weaker life of the battery.
  • Although this laptop serves as a perfect desktop replacement. 14-inch screen doesn’t suffice my gaming needs.

Summary:

This laptop has everything that a gaming laptop should have. Good gaming laptop is a definition for a laptop that can last at least 2 years, and we promise that with this build, MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro will be proficiently running the best games of today and tomorrow.

#3. MSI GT72 Dominator G-831 17.3″ GAMING LAPTOP

[amazon_link asins=’B01AC40K1C’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’dce0de98-df24-11e6-84b4-9b90a11f7703′]Another MSI model that has sufficient performance to meet the requirements of a proficient gamer with serious demands.

This laptop is one of the best gaming laptops I’ve ever seen and it promises an unforgettable experience.

Although it doesn’t look like the most beautiful laptop in the world, it’s the inside beauty that counts, right?

GeForce GTX 980M guarantees pure desktop gaming experience, backed up with a 2.5-GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor and equipped with 32 GB of RAM.

It runs extremely smooth and fast and is equipped with nonetheless four 128GB SSDs in the legendary RAID 3 configuration.

Also, it features 1TB 7.200-rpm hard drive which is more than enough to store all of  your gaming memories. This laptop runs fair with the competition, and with those who have a larger wallet, it’s a dream laptop to have.

Things that I liked

  • You can’t ask for the better graphic setting. This laptop will allow you to feel and experience the best of the gaming ambient. 8GB of VRAM give a mean punch to the competition.
  • No overheating. One of the biggest fears of every gamer is the heating. This laptop scares the fear away. Enjoy a ‘cooling’ gaming with annoying warnings and mini heart attacks.
  • Full-size customizable keyboard promises a lot.
  • Loud and balanced audio that is pleasant for all ears.

Things that I didn’t like

  • Appearance is a bit of uncreative. Although it features alluminium design, it’s a bad copy of GT72. However, just because the design is a bit of a disappointment, that doesn’t mean that the whole laptop is a waste.
  • Honestly, this laptop is overpriced. It’s understandable that there has always been tendency to make laptop as portable and high-end as possible, and that good gaming demands high costs, but a good gaming laptop doesn’t have to be this overpriced, despite the performance.
  • Sometimes it appears quite hard to adjust the perfect level of brightness, and that can get very annoying.

Summary

Although it’s overpriced, MSI GT72 Dominator Pro runs in the same line as its competition with outstanding components, audio and gaming performance.

It features something new in the gaming world, something that’s not going to get overcome for a good while.

This gaming laptop is a pure conveyance of accuracy, speed, and a top-class gaming experience with outstanding audio setting and keyboard that is customizable to the vast majority of gamers.

Perhaps its screen doesn’t keep up with the whole system of awesomness, but this is one of the best laptops ever featured on the market, and I’m sure that every serious, professional gamer will see that this is true.

#4. Acer Predator 17 X Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01F5LWTIE’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ee416a83-df24-11e6-8fcf-230efd2a3294′]From the moment when you click the power button, to the moment you play your favorite game, you will know that Acer Predator 17 X is the laptop you must have in the 2018.

This is a new generation of laptop that offers a large variety of performances and features every professional gamer can only dream about.

Although it has a lot of similarities with its predecessor Acer Predator 17, you should definitely never mistake them for the same.

It introduces the concept of VR with an equipment of fully placed Nvidia 980 desktop graphic card that includes an overclocking tool for high-end gaming performance.

Just like the above mentioned models, this laptop offers a deep, silent and comfy keyboard that satisfies our needs, along with customizable macro keys. Overheating is no longer an issue with this laptop, as it offers a powerful heating management.

The 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK CPU and quite large 32GB of RAM prove this laptop’s beasty attitude. In addition to these killer components Acer Predator 17 X offers a combination of two 256GB SSDs in Raid 0 and a 1TB hard disc for storage.

This laptop is capable of taking on any task we requested from it, and it still managed to run fine after 16 tabs opened of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and several other programs.

Furthermore Predator 17 X is easily overclocked by a simple application called Predator Sense. It allows you to increase the performance higher in case of need.

The Things that I liked

  • It is simply fantastic. Although it appears to be a bit big, it still has so much to offer.
  • Amazing graphical performance, and overall performance as well. This is another VR-ready laptop that has as much to offer as the most efficient desktop computers.
  • Macro-row, colorful keyboard allows your fingers to feel either comfortable and agile.
  • Offers an outstanding audio performance and satisfying cooling.

The things that I didn’t like

  • It is quite big and heavy. LAN parties and travelling represent the utmost satisfaction for gamers with laptop, because they get to experience amazing gaming on vacations or at their friends’ place. However, being this large, and hard to fit in the bag is very disappointing.

Summary

While the vast majority of us would like to see a slicker, smoother and slimmer design that could fit in our bags without sweat, this laptop offers the things other laptops cannot.

This is unarguably one of the best laptop amongst the competition that is probably by hundreds more expensive than this one. Amazing graphic card and general performance offer large selection of games, and those VR ready as well.

#5. HP OMEN 17 17.3” UHD 4K Gaming and Business Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01J6YZQDG’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’09c04bf7-df25-11e6-850d-45d8f93ed656′]With HP Omen 17, we have entered the era where laptops have the power to equal the capabilities and performances of gaming desktop computers.

This is another laptop that went far beyond the expectation with Nvidia GTX 1070 graphic card, and Intel Core i7-6700HQ that is followed with 16GB of  RAM that can push its way through any gorgeous looking desktop game of high demands.

Another addition is that it handles virtual reality based games with the same graceful charm, thanks to its graphic card. Red-backlit keyboard is quite comfy and deep. If you were hoping for a metal build, we might have to leave you with utmost disappointment.

However, the plastic still looks quite sturdy. If you’re a multitasker, then this laptop is for you. It can withstand various tasks from over-using browsers to watching multiple streaming videos, scanning systems and playing two games.

The things that I liked

  • Despite its large build, the design is still slick and somewhat slim. It easily fits in the laptop bag and is compatible with travelling and LAN parties.
  • Strong gaming performance for the most gracefully built games. The laptop is also fully adjustable to VR-based games which is a great news for those who prefer laptops over desktop computers.
  • Vibrant 4K display with colorful and vibrant features, allow you to experience gaming into a completely new dimension.
  • Knowing how battery life of laptop is completely destroyed for the sake of gaming, HP Omen 17 has a respectable battery life that will gift you with more than 3 hours of effective gameplay.

The things I didn’t like

  • It’s not as heavy as Acer Predator 17 X but it can get quite annoying.
  • The laptop has extremely noisy fan. We know that keeping our laptop cool for the gaming purposes is mandatory, but the noise can get very annoying and overwhelming.
  • I won’t say that it overheats because that’s too rough, but it can get hot easily.

Conclusion

In the following years, the concept of virtual reality will develop to the upper limits.

This being said, many people are predicted to switch into enjoying the virtual reality games. HP Omen 17 not just offers great performances for the general, yet strict and bold playtime, but it is fully VR-ready laptop.

In the sea of the gaming laptops, despite the defects that can be ignored with ease, this laptop is worth having at all costs. It will serve all professional, strict and devoted gamers in the year of 2018 but in the following years too.

Why Should You Trust Our Judge?

Because we want the best for our fellow gamers!

Meeting the perfect ratio between the price and quality is quite challenging and difficult task. Getting to test various laptops, running on different settings and performances has sharpened my judgment and prepared me for this job. I’ve tested laptops and desktop computers since my high school days. Being passionate about my favorite games that had a very demanding nature has encouraged me to always seek for the better quality.

Visiting various fairs and game cons, and also listening to people who were smarter and more experienced regarding this matter vastly impacted the way I look at the laptops and games. This being said, you can completely rely on my judgment before you set your hands on one of the best gaming laptops for 2018.

Who Uses These Laptops?

Gamers Duh! But, what gamers?

The vast majority of gamers usually prefer desktop PC instead of a laptop. The reason of this is because desktop PC is by far cheaper than a laptop. On the contrary, the laptop uses a lot of battery life, performance and budget in order to support high-end games.

People that rely on laptops are usually serious gamers. The participants who enjoy the comfort and portability of laptops, while also being able to change positions cross distance. My best friend and me enjoy playing together, and a laptop enables me to go over and throw an amazing LAN party.

More importantly, users of gaming laptops are usually students, travelers, digital nomads who cannot drag their PC around the world in order to have a large gaming experience and enjoy their favorite games, especially because having a laptop means being very flexible.

What Makes the Ideal Laptop for Gaming?

Choosing the right laptop to support the high-end, demanding games is never an easy task. Not just any laptop will meet the professional gamer’s requirements and demands, if you’re looking for a high-end machine that will handle the most demanding games with high framerate, then you should consider the following information.

Gaming laptops are built with purpose to ensure the highest possible framerate that will benefit the gamer and cause him not to rage out at his machine, therefore not just any laptop with a slick appearance will suffice. The components that have the largest play in the gaming experience are certainly the graphics card (GPU), processor (CPU), memory (RAM), and the disk space.

Although these are in order mandatory specifications, the gameplay and general performance on a laptop highly depend the laptop’s heat management, which includes the noise management as well. Nobody likes to have their gameplay interrupted with a buzzing, loud GPU fan noise. The keyboard of a perfect gaming laptop needs to be customizable, deep and beyond all comfortable to the player’s fingers.

The large role in this have also a display that needs to have fine, matching colors and speakers that have to output accurate, good-quality sound.

As our roundup started in order, we will focus on the perfect graphic card for the laptop you must have in the 2018. We have tested NVidia’s GeForce GTX 980M, GTX 970M and GTX  960M with various games that came out in the past two years.

The high-end, demanding games gave more or less a difficult task to these graphic cards. The GTX 980M ran all of those games at 1080p on ultra-settings with amazing 46-60 frames per second, while the GTX 970M ran them a bit slower at 30-45 frames per second.

Although this result is very discouraging, it’s still higher than a minimum of 30 frames per second which makes it an amazing go. The lowest graphic card in the list, GTX 960M will run games such as Watch Dogs on only 15fps, obviously on ultra-settings.

That is not disappointing, because the high settings can run this game at 25-30fps which is merely satisfying in the terms of gaming.

If you decide to stay on ultra-settings, because you enjoy the magic 1080p produces on your display, then you will have to encounter frequent lag in the combat, stuttering gameplay, and we all know how framerate drops can disturbingly affect our gaming mood.

Being one of the fastest mobile graphics card that are available on the market, The Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M is available in laptops that cost at least $1800 or under, making it available to all people with smaller wallet, yet great wish to experience the high framerate. In order to settle with the better graphics card GTX 980M you will have to spend nearly $2000 or more at the moment.

Even though the GeForce 10 series have become available on laptop and produce desktop-level gaming experiences with the GTX 1060, GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 with Pascal mobility, the highest graphic card in the 9 series 980M is still the leading graphic card, despite being more expensive than the GTX 970M, it is still estimated to be very popular amongst the gamers, and provide high-end gaming experience for long time.

Also GTX 980 mobile card in a desktop-class is available only in those laptops that have pricing go over $3000, and I don’t think that anyone is willing to go this far with the 10 series Pascal Mobility Graphic cards.

Moving on, we’re reaching onto the processors, and probably the slowest and cheapest processor we chose is the Intel Core i7-6700HQ for this year. However, paired with the graphics card that we have presented above it is more than enough when it comes to gaming.

At the moment, the AMD processors aren’t frequent or competitive in the gaming laptops, so we will leave them off the list right now. Obviously there are the HK processors that provide high-end gaming and are compatible with the best graphics card in the series, however, that is also expected to see only in very expensive laptops.

Gaming laptops nowadays come with 8-32GB of RAM, and starting with 8 GB of RAM, it is quite enough for most of the games that came out in the past 2 years.

I know that the vast majority of gamers like to upgrade their laptops and computers to the higher limits, but buying anything more than 16GB or eventually 32GB of RAM, and by that I mean 64GB of RAM is complete waste of money, time and intellect. This being said, we will focus on laptops that have 16GB of RAM and eventually less, and I don’t think that anything is going to change in the 2018.

When it comes down to the ideal laptop’s storage, it is of utmost importance that we remain flexible in this category, as storage settings are different, starting from the manufacturer to the configuration.

In ideal conditions gaming laptops are equipped with at least a 256GB solid-state drive and 1 TB of hard-drive storage. In the solid-state drive we have the operating system, some important programs and a library of games that don’t take too much.

Hard drive of 1TB serves the purpose of storing extra game files, movies, media and other programs. The concept of 1TB SSD is introduced, but not yet enough affordable to replace the hard drives in the first place, in general, the ultrabooks already have a tendency to get rid of the roomy, mechanical hard drives.

There’s no need to leave behind the laptops without the SSDs, but with technology advancing and SSDs getting a cheaper options to monitor and use the necessary files in the laptop sounds like a great and handy idea.

After we’ve seen all of these options and evidences, our conclusion that the ideal laptop of ours costs around or less than $1800 and contains the powerful, beasty Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M GPU or better, an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, or however faster in order to support the bold attitude of Nvidia’s 9 series second best graphics card, RAM memory that varies between the 8GB to 16GB of RAM and eventually 32, although our selection offers only one exception of 32 GB of RAM, and at least one 256GB solid-state drive accompanied with 1 TB mechanical hard-drive.

In case you’re willing to upgrade, the best choice would be a machine that contains Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M, the same Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor or smoother, 16 to 32GB of RAM, and the same hard-drive and SSD settings, or better. Getting all of this for less than $3000 or $2500 is certainly a good thing to hope about, but price doesn’t essentially matter if the laptop is worthy with its components and performance.

When pursuing an ideal, bold gaming laptop, you cannot rely only on its hardware performance, as it is not the only thing to be put in consideration. Top-notch graphics card and a processor risk the heat of the laptop, and we don’t want it to overheat.

Overheating contributes to the machine shutting down, working slower and lagging, furthermore, the laptops that are prone to overheating are likely to die sooner than the competition with respectful heating performance. An ideal gaming laptop has an advanced cooling system that will keep the optimal temperature of processor and graphic card ideal, between 60 and 80 Celsius degrees.

However, a good heating system must also have silent, or little-to-no noise on itself, as it affects the efficiency of the laptop’s speakers. The quality of laptop also depends on good, comfortable keyboard, 1080p display, and smooth, slick build.

A laptop that has G-sync, high-quality speakers, a responsive and intuitive trackpad accompanied with a long, respectful battery life is a laptop that all of us would like to have, but it isn’t entirely necessary and doesn’t affect our gameplay too much.

As a result of G-Sync we aren’t encountering tearing and stuttering in the combat. However, it isn’t worth making additional payments for. If speakers are of bad quality, they are easy to replace with a pair of comfy, large gaming headphones that produce amazing sound. And, trackpad? I seldom see people playing games with trackpad but with a responsive, sensitive mouse that makes us more flexible inside the games.

When it comes down to the battery life and portability, we’ve always risked one for another or both for the sake of gaming. These two factors aren’t essential, and have never been the stronger side of the laptops, they are known for sitting in a fixed position, plugged against the charger.

Although these are not important, there are gaming laptops that are complimented with the following features. Gamers with a geeky sense of movies will enjoy owning a Blu-ray drive that allows you to watch movies, as long as they’re not too expensive.

Also touchscreens and 3D, however they don’t matter when it comes down to the gaming laptops. Also, many leading websites that are regularly reviewing hardware and software found that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M provides gameplay at 4K resolution. But, we aren’t going to see ultrahigh-res displays anytime soon on the market.

Another thing to add, but is certainly important only if you’re a lover of the concept of the Virtual Reality is that the 10 Series of GeForce graphics card that are based on Pascal Mobility are virtual reality ready.

The Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 is a mid-ranged laptop from the Republic of Gamers Asus series, with features that satisfy every gamer’s needs.

Despite being better than slightly less-expensive machines, and a bit below pricier laptops, it runs most of the high-end games without sweat.

It operates well with daily actions and despite its age, will be a must have in 2018.

Yes, there are laptops that are probably better than this one in the list, but this laptop is the best you can get in either terms of price and performance.
