Top 5 Best 17-inchs Gaming Laptops 2017

Is bigger laptop better? Not always. It pretty much depends on how mobile you are. People who are going to travel with their laptop, use them in the business purposes and take the laptop to university will definitely be happier with a more portable option? The main drawback of the laptop this big is its weight.

If you are carrying it, it might be uncomfortable for you to carry a laptop that has a weight over three to four kilograms. Additionally, laptops this big hardly fit in the traveling bags and you can end up damaging your laptop while traveling through the crowd.

Main reason for such a chunky weight is the components the laptop holds inside. These laptops have near perfect cooling system, if not as good as the gaming desktops. These laptops are entirely dedicated to replacing desktops and they keep inside great variety of features that allow you to use the desktop class of a laptop.

Using a laptop with such a large setup you’re settling with the fact that you’re mostly going to stay plugged next to the nearest available power socket. Even though this is a personal opinion, you’re not going to find yourself sitting with this laptop in your lap, bus, train or plane. You will have to accept that this kind of laptop is there just to replace your desktop computer.

#1. ASUS ROG G752VS – The Best 17 inch Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01K1JW3PO’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’1e520108-f63c-11e6-b0d8-cdaee142e9cd’]With the long, dedicated and extensive reviewing and testing, we’ve decided that the Asus ROG G752VS is the best 17 inches gaming laptop, that you must buy in the 2017.

The main reason this laptop provides excellent gaming experience consists of getting the full performance of GTX 1070M and the latest Intel processor for couple of hundreds of dollars less than the competing laptops.

This laptop is not just relatively expensive but, it also offers great gaming opportunities as much as the game development features. G752VS is perfect laptop with every gamer with high self-esteem, bold attitude and strict passion for games.

This laptop is very similar to the G752 version we’ve written about at the end of December. But the VS extension is far more advanced than the VT.

This laptop has everything a powerful gamer would dream about and enhanced with the great quality 1070M graphics card, HK processor and 32 GB of RAM. Additional advantage compared to the G752VT is the Virtual Reality eligibility which can score even in the highest demanding games in respectful and admirable framerate.

You will deeply fall in love with the massive 32 GB of RAM, sleek silver and grey body with a truthful gaming attitude. With this laptop and many others featured by the Asus, you will see that this laptop has set a new standard in the high demanding gaming industry. We are sure that more brands will follow the Asus’ models to their trip of awesomness.

Design

Best 17 inch Gaming LaptopThe design doesn’t significantly deviate from the G752VT, but it is certainly nice to see a silver case that is fairly different than the dark grey and/or black followed with the sinister or crimson red lights.

Covered in a discreet silver/gold/copper textures, you will notice that this laptop is built specially for the gaming kings and moreover those who don’t settle with anything less than the best.  As of when you open the laptop, you will notice the familiar black matte touch finish for the keyboard and surface where the palms rest as you type.

On touch, the system feels like million dollars, and feels like it’s something that only high class can adapt to. I didn’t personally notice any kind of drawback in the design, especially after getting to touch the laptop.

In its initial edition, the G752VS was made from metal and somewhat plastic. When you look at the upper part of the case, there is an embedded ROG (Republic of Gamers) logo laying in the middle of the case. There are additionally two red accents that more pull onto the orange color, the color can be set with the integrated light that is dressed in an aluminum lid. On pressure test, the case remained firm, and there were no signs of cracking or bending.

Just like its elder, the laptop appears to be in a bulky and chunky design but knowing that the laptop sports a desktop class processor and one of the strongest gaming graphics card in order to provide the optimal temperature and cool surroundings around the components, this chunky build is more than fundamental.

When it comes to the hinges that connect the upper and lower part, they indeed do a great job as they bend the display securely at any angle. The laptop is equipped with the maintenance hatch which can be removed after removing the screw that connects it.

The laptop measures roughly 4.5 kg which is way too heavy compared to the laptops that we’ve reviewed before. There’s a lot that the 17 inch laptops compromise in order to deliver top notch performance. And as such, the users have to give up on highly durable battery lives, portable weights, and frequent visiting LAN parties.

Keyboard and Touch Bar

When we opened the laptop and took a glance of the chiclet keyboard, we haven’t seen any kind of changes compared to the predecessor G752VT. Mostly because this kind of keyboard with large spacing between the keys (3mm) which is sufficient for the fast typists to achieve the highest potential typing.

You will notice that the keyboard is soft and deep, the travelling of the keys varies around 2.5 mm, additional matte surface enables the high demanding experience. Knowing that it’s been designed for gaming, the manufacturer has made the build quality of keys excellent. You can’t ask for more than having a keyboard that is capable of processing of 30 inputs at a time.

Additional quality is that the keyboard is fairly responsive and swift. The anti-ghosting technology allows the flawless typing without errors. The laptop is easy to get adapted to, so it won’t be long until you’ll be able to use the keyboard without any problem.

The red back lights are seen on this model just like on the model before this one and the vast majority of gaming laptops available on the market. Combined with these silver textures is quite unlikely to see but, that doesn’t mean that it’s bad, considering that the manufacturers insist on those disco lights, annoying gaming laptops.

Dedicated gamers can rest with the joy knowing that the G752 is coming with the programmable macro keys. Not just one of them but five. They are located above the keyboard and do handy job in providing swift access to some important functions inside the games.

Together with the keyboard, there haven’t been changes in the touch bar in both terms of design and skills. There is a trapezoidal surface that is smooth and sleek and obviously precise. Unfortunately the input devices aren’t the best in the corners of the touch bar but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. The laptop is also equipped with the Smart Gesture software that gives you a large selection of options and thanks to the advanced AI successfully recognizes up to four fingers in the touch bar.

The laptop additionally comes with the separate buttons that are sufficiently grippy. It has fast traveling, just like the keyboard. The whole keyboard and touch bar, just like the mouse replacement buttons are quiet, and deep without making the annoying, crunchy sounds that distract. The touch bar won’t replace the gaming mice but serves greatly for the casual use of the laptop.

Display

The latest G752 model is equipped with a strong, vivid and bright screen with a full HD, IPS panel, provided by LG. The screen is covered in a finish matte texture which sufficiently removes the reflections and blackening.

Given that, there are perfect viewing angles for the gamers, allowing the gamers to achieve their full potential. The screen response time is 22 ms which is great but still not as perfect as the G series MSI laptops that focus their gaming performance in the display, aside from the gaming performance.

Among many panels, Asus offers three the best. In the current G752 you can find 2 Full HD displays with 75 Hz or 120 Hz, while there is also a 4K panel with 60 Hz. The best thing about all three panels is that they support G-Sync that in-depth enhances the full gaming experience. Additionally, the laptop sports the maximal 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution with 127 PPI, pixels density.

The reason Asus picked the LG display is because they provide great results for the illumination. This laptop offers great lighting settings, that simply convert into the high selection of vibrant colors. Great screen quality is of mandatory importance for the professional gamers. Because the vast majority of gamers tend to record their gameplay experiences and provide amazing colors and picture in their videos. Furthermore, the screen is free of PWM flickering.

Audio

The laptop is equipped with the two stereo speakers that appear to be behind the display, on the back side of the laptop. It is sad that in this model we won’t see larger speakers, considering that the whole system is quite chunkier than the other. On the underside of the G752VS you will see a placed subwoofer which creates a decent quality bass that supports the audio.

Overall, the generated sound is good. People don’t mainly focus on the quality of sounds in the gaming laptops but, even though that the laptop with great sounds is hard to find there are not too many complaints about the audio quality of the G752VS. Fortunately, the quality doesn’t decrease even after we’ve put the volume not up, additionally noise is not audible.

Just like the predecessor, this laptop is equipped with the Sonic Studio II. The main and its best feature is being able to adjust and adapt the audio profile accordingly. This means that you’ll be able to listen a certain selection of audio profiles whether are you gaming or watching a movie. We hope that there will be a lot more models with this amazing feature.

Heating and Noise

The predecessors G752VY and G752VT have performed greatly in the aspects of temperature and cooling. Along with them, the G752VS has the same case and design, hence is introduced with the same cooling system as its elders. This being said, we’re pleased with the fact that the G752 is one of the most quiet systems available right now. Laptops, especially the portable ones are often loud and hot, which is not the case with these laptops.

The fans that are embedded inside the laptop have a constant spinning, without pausing. When the laptop is on but out of use, the 17 inch gaming laptop provides us with a quiet system noise that is nowhere near disturbing and if you’re not completely focusing on it nearly invisible. When the laptop is running the 3D applications the noise slightly increases, and when the laptop is on the full run on 100% on all its components the fans reach the noise of 47 db. When we were watching videos and movies, the laptop had a constant speed without causing pulsation.

Being nearly the same, the temperatures on this G752 model are quite pleasing, despite a bit higher than its predecessors. Just like with every laptop there are couple of hot spots recorded but maximally with the 40-42 degrees. The competition in this range is slightly hotter and even exceeds 50 degrees, reaching nearly 60 degrees.

When they were exposed to the stress tests the processor showed an average temperature of 80 degrees while the graphics card showed around 74 degrees. You will notice that this was slightly hotter than the desktop computers. But this temperature setup will allow you to run games for long gaming sessions without interruptions.

Battery Life

The Asus G752VS is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that is rated at the very 90 Wh. The battery is well fixed and it takes a lot of hard work and persistence to remove it. Even though the capacity of this battery is significantly higher than the laptop’s elders, that doesn’t mean that the battery life is longer. The MSI GT72VR has a minimally smaller battery that achieves relatively same performance.

Our first choice is capable of surviving about 1 hour and half when it is exposed to the highest performance and under the full load. In a regular day to day use, the laptop can run at about 4 hours which is less than mediocre. But, given that this is a large laptop it is quite understandable.

When the laptop is used for watching videos, being at the top charge, the laptop is sufficient for watching between one and two full HD videos. Gaming is somewhat enabled on this battery but the graphics card can get onto a high clock frequency which means slower and weaker performance.

Performance

The system is equipped with the latest components that can ensure the top quality of gaming. Given that, you will see the Intel’s latest quad-core processor that outperforms the Intel Core i7-6700HQ by bits. This is the overclocked Intel Core i7-6820HK processor with 2.7 GHz. However, it is available with the turbo mode that boosts it up to 3.6 GHz. Thanks to the latest Intel’s technology, the processor is capable of achieving  8 threads to process.

The system is equipped with 32 GB of RAM which is in my personal opinion too much. But it’s never too much if you’re a professional and skilled gamer. As for the storage, the laptop is equipped with the 256 GB NVMe PCIe solid state drive, equipping the operating system in it and providing excellent processing and transferring speeds. For the second view of storage, the system is equipped with the 1 TB 7200 RPM mechanical hard drive which is swift and efficient in terms of saving videos, movies and much more.

As you know, the enhanced G752 model is equipped with the newest NVidia Ge Force GTX 1070M graphics card that is one of the best graphics card. It is equipped with 8 GB GDDR5 of memory and is virtual reality friendly. You possibly can’t ask for the better performance setup as the graphics card is not only capable of running the most demanding titles on ultra settings but also give great 4K settings for those who are up for 4K panel.

Things that I didn’t Like

While this was rather expected, the chunky build leads to a lot of weight. The laptop is nearly impossible to put into the largest bags or ruxacs without looking crazy. If you’re a transport user, you would have to be careful when exposed to the crowds. I consider this laptop unhealthily large and heavy.

The laptop has mediocre life of only three to four hours which is very disappointing. The 17 inch laptops won’t replace the 15 inch ones anytime soon or ever. But it would be lovely if the manufacturers worked on extending the battery life instead the WHs on the battery.

It is quite difficult to get to the fans after opening the laptop. This will appear difficult to the tidy users who want to regularly clean the dust out of fans that couldn’t get out through the vents.

Reason for Recommending

Asus G752VS is one of the most quiet, agile laptops that you want to lay your hands on. Not only it features an improved and brighter design featured by Asus but, with the latest components provides the best kind of performance  for the bold gamers. If you’re looking for a powerful 17 inches gaming laptop that can cope with the latest trends in technology, let Asus G752VS be your choice

Summary

Even though it looks a lot like the predecessors there are slight improvements in the displays, speakers and battery life. Certainly, we wish that there were more about the laptop’s durability in terms of battery life. Aside of that the laptop sports the latest components, the latest Intel’s Skylake processor of 6th generation that is perfectly compatible with the GTX 1070M that is eligible with the Virtual Reality games. Although it’s hard to access the fans, this laptop has every possible predisposition to be one of the best gaming laptops for the 2017 and many other games.

#2. Aorus X7 v6-PC3D 17.3″ Notebook FHD – Slim and Light Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01KB8QRVQ’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’548a76f8-f63c-11e6-8bdb-95e3aa169706′]The Aorus X7 is a premium gaming laptop that has a 17.3 inches diagonal screen.

It comes in an attractive design covered in brushed aluminum with hawk sign embedded on the back of the laptop. It has a backlit keyboard that feels cushy and good. And is equipped with a IPS anti-glare display with LCD support.

The display also supports the NVidia G-Sync that makes great viewing angles and finish matte textures. As about the performances similarly to the first choice of ours, the laptop is equipped with the NVidia GTX 1070 M GDDR5 with a VRAM capacity of 8GB. Capable of various Virtual Reality features.

The laptop supports the graphics card with the amazing 16 GB of RAM with the maximal 32 GB RAM capacity along with the overclocked quad-core Intel Core i7 6820HK with 2.7 GHz capacity and capable of boosting up to 3.6 GHz. Additionally the system sports storage of 256 GB drive along with the 1 TB mechanical hard drive with 7200 RPM.

The laptop has more than sufficient storage for the most demanding data. The laptop also has a RGB fusion keyboard with nice space lining, and features scissor-base macro keys. It is chunky and less of a feather weight but that is expected from the 17.3 inches gaming laptop.

Things that I liked

  • The laptop has amazing sleek design that definitely stands out from the crowd.  In the world of gaming, the design dedicated to the gamers is very important. The laptop doesn’t have over attaching design like the ROG and HP Omen laptops have but it still has a scent of gaming creed on itself.
  • The laptop has great transfer and accessing speed as a result of great quality SSD. You simply can’t ask for more.

Things that I didn’t like

  • The speakers appear to be very quiet. While the overall system isn’t loud that isn’t a problem. But this kind of problem is able to be overcome only with a decent pair of headphones.
  • The laptop has a low battery life. It is still understandable that laptops this demanding cannot exceed 3 to 4 hours of life.

Reason for Recommending

If the laptop we’ve listed above has been sold out, this is the perfect replacement that can meet even the most demanding tasks gamers set today. This laptop doesn’t only come with great design but also with great components inside of it.

Summary

The first impression can trick you. The Aorus X7 looks very compact to the point you’d think that this is one of those laptops that sport portability more than power.

Unfortunately, just like us you’re wrong. For this money, the laptop can offer you overclockable processor and a virtual reality friendly graphics card supported with the G-Sync display. The only drawback that we’ve really minded is the really short battery life.

Either way, if you’re looking for a gaming laptop that will serve you for several years without breaking and causing the framerate drops, this is the right model for you, especially because of its Virtual Reality capabilities.

The gaming laptops are going to get cheaper and cheaper so in a few years we won’t be surprised if the concept of virtual reality entirely replaces the regular gaming.

#3. Lenovo Ideapad Y900 – 17.3″ FHD Gaming Laptop

[amazon_link asins=’B01FJFNE2Q’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’61a67c54-f63c-11e6-9867-0bdbae95eae1′]The laptop that took over the gamers’ hearts with the speed of light and got sold out pretty fast is definitely Lenovo Ideapad Y900.

We haven’t written about the Lenovo laptops for quite some time but that doesn’t mean that the Y900 doesn’t come with great variety of features. It comes in a black color as a decent buy and sleek design that simply takes away the breath.

You will see embedded Y sign for its Y series, and brushed aluminum that looks quite attractive. It supports the resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution and supports NVidia G-Sync. It has great performance but significantly lower compared to the choices we’ve listed above. The laptop comes with the overclockable i7 K series processor and NVidia GTX 980M.

The lack of the Pascal series laptop is noticeable but, that doesn’t mean that the 980M is not one of the best graphics cards available currently.  The laptop is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and the 5400 rpm disc. This is not the best speeds but will definitely do it.

Above all, the laptop has great mechanical backlit keyboard with the highlighted WASD keys for more accurate pursuing.

Things that I liked

  • I liked the amazing design, very trendy and attractive.
  • Despite the GTX 980M, the laptop still has great gaming performance followed with the G-sync feature for more accurate graphics performance.
  • Excellent customizable, backlit keyboard makes typing like a charm. It is nice to see that Lenovo put a lot of work in this laptop.

Things that I didn’t like

  • The system is way overpriced.
  • The laptop lacks a Pascal Architecture based graphics card to be at its full potential. Even a better mechanical hard drive would be more appreciated.

Reason for Recommending

The laptop is really great even though it has several flaws but definitely not dealbreakers. Aside from the attractive keyboard and design, the laptop is capable of running even most demanding games available in the market on respectful framerates. This is a definite must buy for all Lenovo Fans.

Summary

Although it is a bit overpriced, Lenovo Ideapad Y900 has a lot of features that it offers to the dedicated gamers. Our favorite games can be run on it from high to ultra capability without any flaw. It has slower disc that doesn’t make the overall system suffer, luckily. It is a great buy but we’re looking for more laptops to be released by Lenovo, hopefully more game friendly.

  • The sturdy build without the bending and with perfect pressure resistence in the gaming laptop like this is nothing more to be searched for.
  • The QHD screen is simply amazing. It gives a predictable features and a selection of vivid colors. The finish matte also prevents any kind of reflection and leaves you with the perfect viewing angles.

Unlike the other gaming laptops of this range, the laptop offers more likely a casual design without the lighting and ornamentation. It’s covered in a black aluminum. The only thing that is covered in the lighting manner is the embedded Gigabyte logo.

This laptop comes with a 17.3 inches display UHD at the resolution of 3840 x 2160 IPS paneled anti glare display with the great features. Inside it is stuffed with the 6th generation quad core i7 6700HQ processor that can boost up to 3.5 GHz. Along the other gaming laptops from this list, it sports GeForce 1070 GDDR5 8GB memory, powered with the Nvidia Optimus.

Also, there are 16 GB of RAM with the possibility to extend to 32 GB and 1 TB of 7200 RPM storage drive with preinstalled Windows 10.

Things That I liked

  • Strong Battery life can enable long time of surfing the internet, watching movies and other ways of not too hardcore entertainment.
  • It is Relatively light for the gaming laptop, accompanied with great features in terms of hardware.

Things that I didn’t like

  • It’s slighty overpriced. There are several other laptops that offer nearly the same or slightly lower performance for the same amount of money.
  • The design can appear too basic and too casual for some gamer types.
  • The laptop has the low quality and silent speakers. Fortunately this issue can be replaced with good pair of headphones.

Reason for Recommending

If you’re looking for a gaming laptop that will provide amazing game performance while still looking like an ordinary business and day to day laptop, then this is the laptop for you.

While some gamers find over attaching design quite demanding and likeable, there are more conservative gamers who like to settle for the ordinary level of gaming. After all, it’s the insides that matter and this laptop is full of great features that make it friendly in the gaming industry.

Summary

The choice of this laptop deeply depends on the fact of what kind of gamer you are. Although P37 doesn’t look like a traditional gaming laptop, it offers great variety of features that replace the neon and LED backlights and macro keys on the keyboard.

If you’re in love with the Pascal Architecture gaming laptop, 4K display and above average portability and battery life, this laptop should help you achieve all your gaming dreams.

Final Words

Like you’ve seen, all of these laptops are either a 4K or QHD powerhouse with great either external and internal features. We’ve gotten to see the newer models of overclockable processors and the most powerful graphics cards.
