Whether are you a desktop gamer or a laptop gamer you know that the graphics card makes the most important appearance among the components.

This being said, choosing the most compatible, sufficient and high demanding graphics card will give a safeguard choosing your ultimate gaming selection.

Unfortunately the graphics cards vary with price and most of the time as for every other component, the more expensive the better.

We’ve written about the graphics cards before, implying that in order to play newer games but still stay within the budgets it’s recommended to choose laptops that have the graphics cards from the late 9 series such as NVidia GeForce GTX 950M, GTX 960M and eventually GTX 970M that is far beyond the experience of the prior mentioned graphics cards.

These the 970M and 980M are two best graphics cards from the 9 series and they can run every game that today is facing. I suppose that even in the future these graphics cards will persist against the upcoming games and manage to run them if not on ultra-settings, at least on medium to high. That’s something!

In this article we’re going to talk about the graphics cards that exceed every expectation of ours. These graphics cards not just give a mean punch to the all games of past 2 years but are believed to persist for many more years and enable safeguard, high end gaming experience for every gaming enthusiast that prefers laptop more than a computer.

In this article we will get to talk about the GTX 1080M, currently the best gaming graphics card on a laptop, followed with the cheaper options GTX 1070M and 1060M nothing less important and significantly less powerful in terms of gaming.

10-Series Mobile Graphics Cards

In the August 2016, we were honored to witness the releasing of the new 3 graphics cards, first from the 10 series of NVIDIA’s graphics cards. These graphics card unite the power, performance and skill. They have very bold attitude and are believed to be able to crush any game that is set in front of them.

With this move NVIDIA established a new ground for the gaming laptops, allowing these mobile systems to run desktop class gaming and laptop users to experience the near desktop experience, allowing us to freely say that laptops are truly desktop replacements.

They are based on the 16nm Pascal Architecture, meaning that they are supposed to set the new boundaries in the gaming industry, allowing more durable, persistent and powerful graphics to stand out and make a mess. These graphics cards are not affordable to just anyone, they are expensive and mostly meant for gamers that can directly afford them, gamers that are strict and professionals and move the boundaries in setting new records themselves.

The GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080 are setting the new rules, and reaching near performance power just like their desktop versions. The GTX 1080M is the strongest amongst them all, and very powerful in the process, while the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 are significantly cheaper.

Moreover, these graphics cards are Virtual Reality friendly which is why they are so popular. With recent growth of the Virtual Reality concept, everyone is rushing to get themselves a virtual reality headset and an appropriate gaming laptop that will allow them to achieve these experience.

If you want to find out more about these graphics cards, you can do that by reading on our article and now we will start with talking about the Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080M graphics card.

The GTX 1080M: the Best Graphics Card

Best Gaming Graphics Card
The GTX 1080M: The Best Gaming Graphic Card

The laptops containing this beast of a card don’t go under $2500 and that’s for a really good reason. The GTX 1080M graphics card is the strongest graphics card for the laptop and it by far surpassed our expectations.

For the start, I recommend not buying this graphics card unless you’re really a professional in this branch. Not wanting to settle for anything less than the best is understandable. However, if you’re not earning money by gaming, or if you spend your days playing Candy Crush Saga and Minecraft, the laptops that equip this graphics card are definitely not an option for you.

Coming from the NVidia’s GeForce, the GTX 1080 has power the other mobile graphics cards can only dream about. The $600 graphics card is capable of various features and utilities just like running some of the most demanding games on high settings.

Like we’ve mentioned before, this flagship card is accompanied with 2 more graphics cards with significantly lower features, but also lower price. This graphics cards is almost as powerful as it’s desktop twin, GTX 1080 graphics card. They both come with similar features which includes being absolutely virtual reality ready which is great news for every enthusiastic gamer that is also futuristic. This graphics card has 2, 560 CUDA cores and 8GB GDDR5x memory.

Based on this, you will agree that this is the God of the mobile graphics cards in every single way, also the desktop chip is made from the exactly same values, meaning that this graphics card will follow the same as the GTX 1080, meaning that it will be capable of running various new games on high and ultra settings, you will notice that various gamers after this will switch on gaming laptops, mostly because of the mobility as they will realize that the graphics cards are nearly the same powerful as their desktop versions. Don’t let this spook you, in the recent future, we will see a lot more releases like this and it’s just going to get better.

The only noticeable difference between the GTX 1080 and its mobile version is the clock speed. The clock speed is set at 1.556MHz and on the other hand, we have the desktop version that is set on 1.607MHz. However, this doesn’t make much change, as the boost clock remains the same with both desktop and mobile version of GTX 1080, at 1.733MHz.

Both graphics cards are friendly with the latest technology that is meant specifically for the Pascal Architecture, which includes the simultaneous multi-projection, VRWorks, Ansel and much more.

I assume that this technical information doesn’t mean much to you, which is why we will talk in the gaming language now. If this graphics card is paired up with, for instance, a quad-core i7-6700HQ with 2.6GHz chip which boosts up to the 3.5GHz in its turbo mode, it will run some latest games with abnormally high framerates, obviously on ultra-settings, on 1080p and 120Hz, some of the games are Metro Last Light (130), Rise of the Tomb Raider (125), Doom (145) and Overwatch (147). This selection is pretty cool as these are some games that came out in the recent years and the early 9 series have a lot of struggles running them on high and ultra performance.

Getting this level of frames per second seems like a nice deal, meaning that you will no longer have to stumble across the annoying FPS drops, stuttering and lagging. If you’re a streamer and you like to record your gameplay, this graphics card is a must have towards your professional equipment.

This graphics card, too allows the famous 4K gaming, explaining it as more than possible but, also necessary in order to achieve full game experience at its highest possible level. 4K perhaps won’t allow the ultra settings to prevail, but the “high” settings are just enough to run some of the most demanding games.

Overwatch will run up to 90FPS, Doom will run at approximately 70FPS while the Rise of the Tomb Raider will fall short at the 60 frames per second but that is nothing to be spooked about. 4K gaming is the luxury many of us can’t afford and 60FPS are amazing to start with.

The most demanding games of today showed no significant downfalls of the framerate during the real-time gaming, meaning that the virtual reality is a piece of cake for the GTX 1080 graphics card.

Although the GTX 1080M has a lot of advantages and introduces us with the newest generation of the virtual reality friendly laptops and more of 4K gaming just like everything else, it’s not perfect. This is a flaw but certainly not a dealbreaker that with great power comes the great responsibility. That’s why major problem for the GTX 1080M is power.

As the desktop version uses 180W, the laptop version is estimated to use at least 150W of power. There are various programs and cooling pads that can control the power of such a large and massive graphics card.

However, it is understandable that these graphics cards won’t fit into anything smaller than the largest laptop and that it will take a lot of battery power boosters to keep this graphics’ power at its best (unless you want the framerate drops)

The GTX 1070M

[amazon_link asins=’B01GLRX81I’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’2194f143-0eb8-11e7-985c-f52c6b9c3636′]It is certainly cheaper graphics card model compared to the GTX 1080M and it features slightly less of performance as well. The GTX 1070M looks identically like its desktop twin. There are quite differences but that doesn’t mean that this graphics card works less than the rest of them.

This being said, you gain a lot with having a laptop like this. Moreover, it represents the golden mid for the gaming laptops torn between the powerful GTX 1080 and GTX1060 that is a budget graphics card.

When it comes to the CUDA cores, the mobile GTX 1070 features 2048 cores and the desktop version settles for the 1,920. However, the clock speed on the mobile graphics card is quite lower, at around 50MHz lower in case you decide to use the mobile graphics card. As about the memory clock, there’s no need to worry, the mobile graphics card holds strong at 2,002 MHz.

Just like the other newest graphics cards, the GTX 1070M comes with various interesting features that in great measure, enhance the performance of the graphics inside the newest computer games. The already existing suite of features are upgraded with additional Nvidia extras such as PhysX, G-Sync, ShadowWorks, HairWorks and much more.

As a result of the Pascal’s architecture we get to see more supporting features such as Ansel, GPU Boost 3.0, DirectX 12_1 feature support and the latest support for Vulkan API.

These features will definitely enhance the already existing, beautiful gaming realms, and ensure that the open worlds of your favorite games get a completely new, sharper and more vivid texture.

We’ve already mentioned that these 3 graphics cards are completely Virtual Reality Friendly. The Virtual Reality headsets such as HTC Vive and Ocolus Rift are getting more available and affordable compared to the previous years. These systems are estimated to grow even more in the future, and honestly we’re not surprised with that.

The manufacturers force Virtual Reality games to hit on almost every gamer and we will see that these headsets will get more affordable over the years. Also the laptops, the online games will get their Virtual Reality edition because players likely want to experience what their characters go through other than just look at him.

These features such as VR are no longer limited to the noblest, boldest gaming laptops available, soon you will see gaming laptops with more virtual reality features that will make you fall in love with it even more. The future is now.

In real time, when we compare the GTX 1070M with its desktop version you will see that the GTX 1070 gets ahead just a bit, the small percentiles are in this case. When playing the Witcher II, you will be embraced with the steady 75-77 frames per second (Of course, set on 1080p and unfortunately without the HairWorks, however, the frames don’t fall much behind even with the HairWorks on.).

The desktop 1070 holds 80 FPS with Witcher III on everything maxed out. Faced against the Crysis 3 that is very demanding game, the 1080p and high settings max this graphics card on 65 FPS which is not bad at all, whereas the desktop twin has 66-67 FPS.

The part that concerns the 4K gaming is a challenging trait however, that doesn’t mean that it’s not possible. It compromises between 10 and 20 frames per second depending on the game, and also depending on the laptop that is being used (as these chips don’t come as separate ones yet, and we don’t know whether are we going to see them separately or not).

It just depends how much of a professional gamer you are. Someone who is very passionate about gaming but not too strict will enjoy the power and magic the 1080p represent while those who earn with gaming and enjoy the crystal clean picture will aim for the highest, 4K gaming standard.

Nonetheless, the GTX 1070M is more than capable of virtual reality games. They might not be yet that popular but, like we mentioned before the headsets are going to drop even more in price, allowing you to purchase one of your won and enjoy the virtual reality world. In case you didn’t hear, NVIDIA announced that this graphics card will support factory overclocking on this card pretty soon and soon enough you will see laptops that have much more to offer.

The thing that is the best about the smaller construction process is that these chips have a lot more efficient power. Luckily, NVIDIA says that these powerful graphics cards are set on the same power envelope respectively as the 970M, 980M and 980’s.

GTX 1060M: Best Budget VR Ready Graphics Card

[amazon_link asins=’B01IEKYD5U’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6db502fa-0eb8-11e7-be57-41e51aeaef6e’]When you’re aiming for the budget version of these VR ready graphics card, the $249 GTX 1060M gaming laptop seems like the right gaming laptop for you. Whether are you looking for a bold attitude opportunity to grow yourself as a professional and a gamer full of self-esteem, or should you just play your favorite games on very high settings, this is the right graphics card for you.

I’d say that having a budget graphics card with great variety of features including virtual reality is an exception that is not often made. This graphics card offers 1.280 CUDA cores and 6GB GDDR5 memory, and yes, this graphics card is in every way equal to the desktop 1060. Sadly, considering that this graphics card looks lower end it clocks lower compared to its desktop companion. The mobile graphics card clocks at 1,404MHz while the desktop, chunkier one clocks at 1,506MHz, this is the part that quite a bit hurts the overall performance.

Looked from the perspective of the NVIDIA’s benchmark, it suggests that this graphics card will get within 10 percent or so of the desktop card. In real time, and real world, this graphics card cannot move the mountains compared to the ones above it. Not every game will equal the amazing 60 FPS at 1080p, this is unfortunately truth.

However, with the right settings and the right features this graphics card can support the vast majority of newer releases at reasonable framerates. To think about it, if the GTX 980 graphics card can support several games, you can rest assured that the 1060M can handle it too.

And despite our thoughts that this graphics card will be extremely chunky and heavy, it fits in the same chassis as where the GTX 970M works. In my honest opinion, that is amazing, because despite the large power, the laptops still manage to remain the top notch portability, or at least without having it risked too much.

The biggest downfall to this amazing, affordable and portable graphics card is the 10 percent gap between the 1060 and the mobile version of it. This gap results in GTX 1060M being slower than the GTX 980, but you can easily neglect this difference. Although it says that the GTX 1060M graphics card, along the other 2 releases, is virtual reality ready, it is most likely not. Yes, in terms of less demanding games however, the stable 90 FPS are a must on this kind of gaming standard. However, if you’re ready with low end performance, you can feel free to try.

The most of the laptop manufacturers have already implemented the 10 series graphics cards, based on the 16nm Pascal Architecture and opened the wide doors towards the world of the high end, desktop class, gaming laptops that also utilize a sufficient quality virtual reality features that convert. These laptops are Acer, Alienware, Asus, Clevo, EVGA, HP, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI, Origin, Razer, Sager and XMG.

In the future, rest assured that you will see a lot of gaming laptops with this chip, embracing the VR-ready gaming style and suggesting it to their loyal gaming base.

We have told you and highlighted some of the most important features about the newest 10 series NVidia’s GeForce graphics cards. While some of them are dedicated for the boldest gamers, graphics card such as the GTX 1060M holds a lot of similar features at very reasonable price, that is very soon going to drop either.

In our further review article, we will highlight, the best gaming laptop containing each of the mentioned and reviewed graphics card chips. If you’re looking for an add on to your gaming creed you should definitely consider getting some of these laptops, depending on the usage and your pure dedication to the gaming.

2017 Best Gaming Laptops with 10-Series Graphics Card Chips

We’ve finally come to the reviews of the 3 best gaming laptop and each one of them contains one of the graphics cards that we’ve talked about before. While we have already introduced the GTX 1060M in our other gaming laptops from the Best professional gaming laptops above $1000 (link) faced off against the beasty GTX 1070 and arrogant GTX 1080M you will notice that the GTX 1060M more rather seems like the budget graphics card amongst the other 3 that are in the game.

We will highlight the design, features and performance of these laptops, give the best benefits of using them and some of the disadvantages, as every laptop has them, so if you’re looking for a better designed, gaming laptop, this is where our list comes forth, and we suggest you that you continue reading it.

#1. MSI VR Ready GT73VR Titan Pro-201 17.3″ Extreme Gaming Laptop Geforce GTX 1080 I7-6820HK 64GB 1TB SSD + 1TB Windows 10

[amazon_link asins=’B01IS33J76′ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7c2e5a61-eac8-11e6-9ba2-5bae4e1b91cd’]In the world of ever growing virtual reality, and desktop class laptops the GT73VR ready Titan Pro is the gaming laptop only gaming kings use.

It features great performances and the most powerful GTX 1080M, currently the most powerful mobile graphics card, eligible for either 1080p and 4K gaming on the highest possible frequency.

The laptop is made from the brushed aluminum while the bottom of the chassis is wrapped in a sturdy plastic. It has the MSI sign embedded in the middle of the chassis and once you open it, you will be greeted with the RGB backlit keyboard that I personally don’t like.

The laptop has a 17.3 inches antiglare screen and great viewing angles, because you can’t expect anything less from this laptop. The maximal resolution is 1920x 1080 but the laptop is also eligible for the 4K gaming, the highest in its class

About performances, this laptop says entirely different story. It sports a very powerful processor, seen mostly on desktop computers, Intel Core i7-6820HK a quad core processor with 2.7 GHz that boost up to 3.6GHz. RAM has 64GB, which is in my personal opinion too much. Even the most demanding games don’t require more than 8 to 16GB but supposedly for the gaming experience of virtual reality it requires more RAM than ordinary games. When it comes to the storage, aside from the 1TB SATA drive, this laptop has 2x of 512GB NVMe solid state drives.

Things that I liked

  • Anti Glare screen with Wide Viewing angles up to 120Hz, responsive within 5ms and allowing you to get ahead of your opponents while gaming.
  • Great graphics performance and 2 solid state drives that are sufficient for the most professional gamers.
  • Good, cushy keyboard for the passionate typists.

Things that I didn’t like

  • There are no general flaws on this laptop, perhaps it’s too chunky but that is understandable considering all that it carries.

Reason for Recommending

The strictest gamers should never set for anything less than the best. Such is this laptop, providing the best gaming performance ever seen, running smoothly as a real desktop computer, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of Virtual Reality there are.

Summary

This is the laptop that can make you awe it, when you see it and get to play games with it, especially the virtual reality ones, your heart will bump like never before. Dedicated only to the titans of the gaming industry, professional gamers who want to score the best results in the gaming competitions and stream the most of the gaming on a desktop class.

#2. XOTIC MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro 087 – 15.6″ G-Sync Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-6700HQ GTX1070 16GB DDR4 256GB SSD +1TB HDD Win10 VR Ready – HTC Vive Compatible

[amazon_link asins=’B01LY6TKTC’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’66299ada-eac8-11e6-a3fc-6f907c645e14′]Designed purely for excellence and high end gaming, MSI GT62VR is a great gaming laptop that features virtual reality ready performance.

This is another MSI’s gaming laptop from the G series that provides the best gaming performance in the world and moreover features the beasty GTX 1070M.

When it comes to the design, MSI likes to keep it ordinary looking when it comes to the chassis, it is made of the brushed aluminum but once you open it, you will be greeted with the awesomeness.

The laptop has a 15.6 inches IPS paneled screen with a finish matte, and represents sharp, vivid colors with pure and full accurace. The laptop has perfect viewing angles and doesn’t reflect, as a result of the finish matte feature. It has a backlit keyboard that is a bit of attached. It comes in 3 colors, red, green and blue and having all 3 of them at once is a bit over attacking to me.

In terms of performance, this laptop is beast, on 1080p it can reach a lot of FPS with the games that put even the most powerful machines on their knees. Thanks to the GTX 1070, this laptop is capable of performing the most of the games that recently got released on ultra-settings without sweat.

Just like the Asus we have reviewed above, GT62 has an Intel Core i7, Skylake processor that can boost in turbo mode up to 3.5 GHz and 16GB of RAM. This setting is more than sufficient in running games.

For the Storage, this laptop has 1 TB mechanical hard drive and 256 GB SSD with great and agile transfer speeds. The operating system is preinstalled on the SSD for the better and smooth performance. The laptop has an advanced cooling system and runs very silently.

Things that We Liked

  • Combination of Hard Drive and SSD is a great combination, which makes this laptop very agile and good in terms of performance.
  • Great graphics performance which prepares the laptop for the virtual reality and is much more efficient than the Asus that has GTX 1060.
  • NVidia G-sync with vivid and accurate colors.
  • Keyboard is very comfortable and feels cushy on touch.

Things that we didn’t like

  • The laptop has a disappointing battery life that is nowhere near durable.
  • The audio quality is poor.

Reason for Recommending

If you believe that you can afford more than a GTX 1060M graphics card, this laptop is the spot on. It is a balance of portability and power and great graphics performance for the high demanding gaming.

Summary

MSI GT762VR is a great gaming laptop designed for the best gaming experience and being intuitive gamer. I cannot recommend a better gaming laptop with the GTX 1070M and such great balance of overall performance.

Additionally, this laptop has a solid state drive which is better than the most of the gaming laptops have. The SSDs are going to get cheaper in the future with the release of the better performing solid state drives and are going to be more frequently used. All in all, great laptop for the price.

#3. ASUS ROG STRIX 15.6-inch G-SYNC VR Ready Core i7 2.6GHz Thin and Light Gaming Laptop [GL502VM] GeForce GTX 1060

[amazon_link asins=’B01KB0WJ1G’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’lincolnlabs02-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’4edfb04e-eac8-11e6-91b6-930dca74ed54′]Asus ROG STRIX GL502VM is another gaming laptop from the Republic of Gamers (ROG) series with components and performance that will blow you off. I’m not just talking about the games but, also sturdy and demanding software for designing and game development.

This is the laptop you definitely want to have if you’re looking for the least expensive yet powerful option there is. This being said, the high-class gaming is definitely guaranteed with this system which provides top notch quality of the resolution, picture and smooth-running system without the lags and the stuttering.

The Asus ROG STRIX gives a perfect balance between the power and portability. The never ending race between the thinnest and the most powerful laptops continues and it is not a secret that with the more thin laptop you sacrifice the power. This is not the case with this system, it is relatively thin and quite lightweight allowing you to carry it wherever you want, and not put it in your room to statically collect dust on the desk.

When it comes to the design, it looks powerful, but so does every ROG laptop, mixing the black colors with orange and red leaving us with the Halloween series laptop lookalike but, it’s not. Just like the vast majority of gaming laptops with this price tag, the STRIX GL502 comes with the brushed aluminum and the etched symbol of ROG in the center. Despite the ordinary ROG symbol that is marked with the crimson red color, here it is replaced with orange.

However, it still looks great. The rest of the chassis is made out of plastic but, you can rest assured that this is not the cheap plastic seen on the lowest end laptops.

The laptop weights 2.2kg which is still relatively featherweight, there won’t be problems carrying it and transmitting it on other locations. This laptop is one of the most welcomed guests on gaming gatherings and LAN parties. The laptop has the backlit keyboard with specially highlighted WASD keys with the sinister red color. All in all, the laptop doesn’t seem too innovative, but it doesn’t make it any less powerful than it actually is.

The 15 inches display has an IPS panel. The supported is 1080p and maximal resolution of 1920 x 1080. The screen is sharp and clear, while the colors are vivid, clear and vibrant. You will enjoy the views this laptop can present, and also enjoy the sounds coming out as the speakers release he full quality sound. The keyboard seems cushy and comfortable, without leaving too crunchy sound when typing. If you’re a typist, you will enjoy the relatively silent usage of the laptop. We wish that the touch bar is a bit more faster and responsive but, in the world of gaming the touch bar is rarely used.

As about the performance, this laptop is a beast.

It features a quad-core Intel Core i-7-6700HQ processor with 2,6 GHz that can boost more in the turbo mode. The gaming experience is boosted through the 16GB of RAM that can easily get extended and the budget, yet powerful GTX 1060M. In this combination the Asus STRIX can run absolutely anything that is set on it, at very reasonable framerates. The virtual reality is possible, but it is a struggling battle.

For the storage, this laptop has 1 TB 7200rpm hard drive which is more than enough to support all the data you need. Every laptop is better off on a Solid state drive, but given a 7200rpm mechanical disc, it is still good enough. The system has preinstalled Windows 10, and a mild life battery that we wish was slightly better.

Things that We Liked

  • This laptop has great portability. The laptop is very thin compared to the other models and that is a rare find to see.
  • Great balance of performances allows even the most demanding games to be ran like a charm.
  • Great screen and good-quality speakers

Things that we didn’t like

  • We wish that the battery would last longer, but this is the price powerful gaming laptops have to pay.

Reason for Recommending

If you’re looking for a good quality gaming laptop, this is the one you should take. Asus has always strived to deliver the quality for the best price. If you can’t afford the laptop with the performances of GTX 1070M and GTX 1080M, this laptop makes up for the lack of money.

Summary

Aside from the disappointing battery life, we’re impressed with the overall performance of this laptop, attractive, feather light design that is not often seen on the market. A solid desktop-replacement that will work properly at least until 2020, and provide great gaming experience and high end graphics.

Final Words

This is it for our article dedicated to the graphics cards and their suitable laptops.

You can choose between the 3 graphics card depending on your budget and their performance. And while the vast majority of people want the best out of best, just because you settle for the graphics card of lower end performance, it doesn’t mean that you’re getting a laptop that can’t run the most successful games. These laptops have SSD drives, great multi operational processors and the greatest quality displays.

In the future, we’re going to see more gaming laptops that sport these, and better graphics cards but until then we can enjoy the best that these laptops can suggest, portability and power.
