Computers are one of the best inventions of modern days. They are an incredible tool for everything from personal use to productivity at work. However, they come with an expensive price tag attached, so when they start acting up, it can be concerning, to say the least.
As frustrating as it can be, understanding the reasons behind why your computer is acting up, is critical for determining how to address the problem. Here are some of the most common reasons why your computer is glitching, and how to fix it.
Exposure to Extreme Temperatures
Although computers were built to withstand various circumstances, they aren’t exactly made of steel. You have to make sure that you keep your computer in an environment that’s not too hot or cold.
That means avoiding keeping your computer too close to your HVAC system, or putting it in direct sunlight. Ideally, you should keep your computer in a room-temperature environment free of any moisture. Otherwise, extreme temperatures may likely be the culprit for why your computer is glitching.
Malware
Unfortunately, if your computer is processing much slower than usual, you see a variety of unexpected pop-ups, or other changes in your computer’s performance, then this could likely be a result of malware.
Malware can make its way into your computer and wreak havoc on it as a result of several different causes. From clicking the wrong link to opening a malicious e-mail, it’s important that you stay aware when navigating the web.
Overloaded Hard Drive
Your hard drive can only keep so much in it. If you’re stuffing it full of files that are too large for its capacity, then it’s only a matter of time until it starts acting up. Clean up any unnecessary files from time to time, and uninstall applications that you don’t use.
If you still find that you’re running out of space on your hard drive, then it might be time to upgrade to a larger storage capacity. Otherwise, you can always use an external hard drive which may be a more affordable choice and just as practical.
Age
Computers, (although it would be nice,) don’t last as long as something like a car does. On average, most laptops last five years, with some models maybe making it closer to ten.
However, any older than that, and you’re going to find yourself with a very slow computer dragging in performance. It’s important to anticipate purchasing a new computer every three to five years if you hope to get the best performance out of it.
Even though it seems unfair to have to spend several thousands of dollars every few years on a new computer, it’s a reality we have to accept. Computers were not made to be long-term investments.
